This is what drove the work initially.
And actually, over the 12 years that I worked on the Marcos project, this reality kind of turning on its head, the world going upside down.
And the project, it did become this kind of all-encompassing 12-year project, really had to respond real time to the institutions that I took for granted coming to pieces.

to constantly chase history while you're trying to depict it.
I don't think it's necessarily structured.
I mean, I do write a lot.
I think the armature of my work is always writing before I even draw.
I think that the role of reading, sometimes kind of using the voice of different authors and sort of ventriloquising through them.
But I think ultimately the way that I, I guess, weave together the more rigorous aspect of writing
of the histories I'm uncovering alongside the more personal.
It's really just from a very simple desire to tell compelling stories.
And I think the more intricate these stories are, the more people will want to know about them.
And so it would be hard to come to these stories, not from like a first person perspective,
I think the structure of the memoir is something I always think about when I approach my work.
And that's a very loose kind of approach.
But I think the idea of like always situating yourself, you know, within the histories you're trying to unravel.
