And then when I would do gigs on my own, I would always tell the last joke.

I'd tell whoever the support act was, like, I'm going to do this as my last joke.

And when I do this joke, I want you to open the fire exit and I'm just going to run off the stage, run out of the venue, jump into the van and go home.

I had to get out.

Really?

Yeah, I just had to get out of the venue.

So I'd set up this thing.

When I'd say this joke, I'd start the van and open the door and I'm going to just run out and go.

And that's what I used to do every night.

Every night I'd run out.

And then I'd drive home and when I'd start to calm down, I'd listen to music and say, oh, that went well, I'd feel good about it.

And I still had a habit of listening to Damien Dempsey tunes.

And I suppose...

Yeah, I get some standout favourites.

It would have been my relief song, my song that you did a good job, it was okay and you did well and it sort of, I suppose, signifies a lot of that period in my career and going from being a support act to doing my own headline gigs.

Still running away, but going, yeah, at least you know how to tell a story.

Yeah, it was a slow thing, but the first time we did Naked Camera, people would say on the street after that, oh, there's that fella off that thing.

And then the second year it was, oh, there's Jake Stevens.

And then after the third year, people were like, oh, there's PJ.

So it started to happen like year by year by year.
