And him being removed so quickly and that wedding just being wiped, this meant from the first week of production last year, the show was now down one controversial male.
And then secondly, Chris left the show much earlier than bosses expected.
And not just that, but their initial plan for him to be the big bad male of the season, it failed because as it became clear quite quickly, Brooke was kind of just as bad as him and it got to the point there was physically no way to keep either of them on the show any longer.
And in the end, as I've previously spoken about the story arc, they had to just make Chris look like the nice guy.
And that unexpected journey we went on with Chris and Brooke, as far as I'm told by various sources, that left bosses going like, shit, we no longer have like any deeply unlikable males left.
And when I say that initially they hoped Chris would be enough to tick that box for most of the season, remember, this is how he was first introduced to us.
People really love me or hate me.
They ran that audio and that promo in adverts for weeks leading up to the season premiere this year.
And everyone hated Chris long before the show even aired.
But then as his character unexpectedly changed, bosses started scrambling going, not only do we need to quickly find a new male villain, but he needs to not just match what Chris was saying at the start.
With green hair and, you know, super overweight.
But be much worse.
And have more impact because remember, this is a show that has to outdo itself every time to maintain the ratings.
And as they then went back to the drawing board, there was Tyson.
As expected, viewers were horrified just minutes into Tyson's backstory in his first episode, which was the plan all along.
And interestingly, the only people I've noticed being supportive of his casting are all the former villains from this show who walked so he could now run.
Dean Wells, who you could say was the original villain, he went straight to social media to share this.
And after I did a post questioning Channel 9 for casting Tyson, Harrison Boone, another former villain, well, he randomly texts me in response saying, Josh, as if you wouldn't want Tyson to punish you.
The difference between Tyson though and all of those other male villains before him, in my opinion, it's that he's a fusion of all of them.
Because each year it seems like the producers find these controversial male figures who only maybe tick one or two of their controversial boxes.
