I was careful with my language because we don't know whether it's infinite.

Yeah, so the Milky Way, 400 billion stars.

Well, we actually think that virtually all of them will have planets, which is a beautiful thing in itself, actually.

The other answer to your question, Will, was that it was astronomy that really captured my imagination.

And when you think about it, when I was growing up in the 70s, we hadn't discovered any planets beyond the solar system, beyond our solar system.

in starting in the 1990s we're discovering them so what that means is you go outside tonight when you've listened to this and you look at the night sky and if you see the stars all of them will have planets around them so solar systems every one of those points are light and that's the one of the things that i think is so the most beautiful thing about astronomy is then your imagination can wander you can look at any of those points of light and say what do those worlds look like

So, yeah, the planets in our solar system, you're right.

So you can see Jupiter, Venus is often very bright in the morning or evening sky.

You'll see Mars, Saturn.

So those are just reflecting the light of the sun.

So that's why you see them.

They don't emit their own light.

Yeah, although, you know, you get a really small telescope and you look at them, then you will see, even with a small telescope, you'll see the clouds of Jupiter, you'll see the rings of Saturn with a small telescope.

So they're nearby and they're just reflecting the sun's light.

But every other thing...

that isn't a planet.

Every other point of light.
