I'm deep into the research, excited about the writing, and that will be the next book, The Stunning Gunnings.

That's really exciting.

Yeah.

Again, this is one of those where you are passing the ball down the field and hoping there's somebody there to catch it.

You know, so I would say I am toward the end of my career.

I hate to even put it this way, although my children remind me all the time how old I am and, you know, that I'm mortal.

So maybe that's a part.

They are adults now.

Maybe that's part of it.

I do hope.

that literature and English literature has a future because it has taken us to the point where we are now.

But I don't think we should only celebrate that.

I think we need to investigate it.

We need to talk about how it's gotten to us to the point we are now in ways that have not been so terribly helpful.

Scholars know this.

I'm not sure that the public is quite there yet with its conversation.

How do you hold a space for both

giving something its due, but also describing the ways that maybe it deserves a bit of a redo.

I do think so.

And I think, you know, leading with enthusiasm and calling people in versus calling people out.
