So it's completely out of sight of Alexander and his men.
They have no idea what's going on.
And they loaded up with every kind of inflammable material they can, these stuffers.
with straw.
They douse the straw in pitch and bitumen.
They paint the masts and the rigging of the ship with pitch.
And they just load this thing up with tons of all the most unpleasant and inflammable things that they possibly can.
And then they tow it out of the harbor in the dead of night.
Now, the Tyrians are incredible seafarers, and what they're doing with this fire ship is unlike anything that anyone has done with a fire ship before in warfare.
People have used fire ships before, generally pretty small, pretty haphazard, but they would generally just be lit on fire and turned loose and just hope that the wind would send them in the right direction.
This, however, has got a couple of warships towing it and has got a crew on board who haven't lit it yet.
Instead, they're running quiet in the dead of night.
And behind the fire ship, there's a whole bunch of small boats filled with guys with swords and axes and spears and just every kind of unpleasant thing.
So there's this little flotilla that leaves the harbor in the dead of night.
And the Greeks have absolutely no idea what's happening.
They have no idea what's coming.
Wow.
And this little armada just sails around the city of Tyre and bears down on Diades' promontory, which is incredibly quiet.
There's a couple of watchmen, not really much happening.
