And because when he's having all these ideas, he's also got Alexander and his entire army and the entire resources of the Macedonian state basically at his disposal.

He's able to take these ideas, which most people would have thought were completely impossible, and actually drag them into reality.

So he's someone who we see doing things that no one has ever done before on a quite remarkable scale.

So what's remarkable is how many things were just taken for granted and

You see that quite a lot of the time in these moments just before the world begins to change.

But in the fourth century BC and certainly in the fifth, there's a lot of war.

There's a lot of battle.

There's so much war.

But there's also a sense of things that military engineers just can't really be expected to do.

Being able to besiege a city, that's fair enough.

You can dig a lot of trenches.

You can put up some power sades.

You can blockade.

You can cut off water.

You can maybe get some ladders and go over the wall.

You can maybe get the inhabitants to betray the city, leave a gate open, that kind of thing.
