He lines up all the catapults he can, and he concentrates their fire on the front walls of Tyre, on that place where Alexander unsuccessfully attacked the first time.

And gradually, because these catapults are firing at point-blank range, and he's got so many of them now, he starts to bring down the walls.

He starts to make a breach in the fortifications for the first time in the history of Tyre.

And he begins to make space for Alexander's men to attack.

Meanwhile, though, he's got ships battering at the fortifications and he's built a siege tower on top of a ship.

He's got this we think is probably, again, an old transport ship, a sort of heavy, wide-beamed ship, where he's built a siege tower on top of a ship, which means that Alexander and his men

can sail up to a point around the fortifications where the Tyrians hadn't got a chance to put large numbers of men.

They hadn't got a chance to station this incredibly elaborate machinery with the burning sand and the catapults ready to fire at point blank range, where the defenses were much, much lighter.

So Alexander, a couple days after his, you know, ignominious retreat, he attacks again.

But he attacks from several directions at once.

Most of his army goes in the breach in the walls in the front.

But he...

And some of his men go over the walls from the sea.

They swarm up the siege tower from the ship, and they go over the walls from the coast.

And then once they're in the city, they take the harbor, and that allows Alexander's fleet to swarm into the city from the sea, and then a whole bunch more men to land.

So Tyre is essentially overwhelmed from several directions.

And the Tyrians don't give up.

They keep fighting.

They fight street by street, house by house.

But Alexander and his men have them just hugely outnumbered and hugely outclassed.
