And we know how much sugar we should have in terms of our percent energy.
So the percentage of the calories that come from sugar.
So it's recommended you should try and have less than 10% of your calories from free sugar.
You should try and have less than 5% in an ideal world.
So the WHO have brought out this recommendation that really we should be aiming to have less than 5% as free sugar.
We're not meeting that.
In the UK, we're doing pretty okay in terms of the general recommendation.
We're around kind of 10, 11%.
But in the US, they're really not doing well.
They're up 15%, 16%, 17% of having these free sugars in their diet.
So the US, it's a particular problem.
And a particular problem, I think, because of the use of the high fructose corn syrup that's in so many foods.
breakfast cereals, highly variable, sweetened yogurts.
So you'll get a lot of yogurts that might look healthy because they say low fat or fruit yogurts, and they might have what looks like a little bit of a raspberry in it, but actually then you've got a load of syrup and they tend to have quite a lot of added sugar.

But there's a couple of things you can do.
So one is that we know that moving to exercise immediately after consuming a high carbohydrate, high sugar load can reduce your blood sugar peak.
