But this was a specific body that was brought in, if you remember, after the 2000 presidential election, the flap between George Bush and Al Gore, to work with states in terms of, you know, make sure you've got effective ballot processes, make sure your voting machines are in order, make sure that you return the vote effectively, you know.

within the day or days after it's conducted.

And now that day-to-day working relationship with the states, that's scrapped.

That's gone.

So at the very least, it provides a question mark about whether we have arrangements for November that are sound.

But I suspect they'll let this body sit in limbo.

I don't think that will put new people in it.

And you're absolutely right that if there's the idea that they want to manipulate the results, you think, well, are there regulators in place that are going to be able to stop it?

Yeah, I mean, McConnell's seat is not, you know, it's not like it's up in Kentucky and that's a Republican state.

So we're not talking about it for that.

But what you have got, I think, beyond the Republicans trying to have, you know, a significant majority in the Senate is a split that's going on here between the Trumpist and what you might call the old line Republicans of whom McConnell is one.

And because, Pat, we also had another incident that most people don't know about.

We had a Republican in the House who was gone for three months.

And then resurfaced a couple of weeks ago because he's being treated for depression.

In this case, what the Trumpists are doing is they're saying that the old line Republicans, they're the ones who are hiding this.

They're the ones who are covering it up because they're worried about their declining influence.

And there's a background to this, which is Donald Trump fell out with McConnell all the way back in 2021.

You might remember when McConnell said, well, we're not going to convict him.

over the incitement of the Capitol attack, but will let the courts deal with him.

Trump never forgave him for that and, in fact, drove him out as the Senate majority leader.
