Well, I think it's helpful then to think about what came after Fordism.
So we talk about Fordism as a period in the United States and Western Europe from, let's say, around the Second World War to the 1970s.
What changes in the 1970s?
Well, globalization, deregulation, attack on trade unions.
Oil shocks.
The oil shocks, you know, things that manufacturing happened here becomes more expensive, relocates to poorer locations.
People don't have the job security they used to.
So you can't secure the social contract that way.
Cradle to grave social protection and employment.
