He meant memareach, which is a tolda of memachik.

But the way it was reported to Rav Salveitchik, he had that response because he thought he was talking about the Av Malacha of memachik.

But be that as it may, according to Rav Salveitchik and Rav Shechter, you're allowed to brush your teeth normally on Shabbos.

When I wrote the article, someone sent a letter to the editor of the Journal of Halachic Contemporary Society saying, you know, Rabbi Leibowitz wrote this very nice article, but he missed one of the most key marmachomos in the whole topic, and that is the great tshuva from Rav Regensburg.

How did he miss the tshuva from Rav Regensburg on this topic?

and the person sent the tshuva and I had never heard of a Regensburg I didn't know anything about this so I remember I told Rav Schechter that I wrote this whole article I thought I did a good job and I missed apparently the most important armachom

So he said, don't feel bad.

You're not expected to know every tshuva that was ever written.

It's not like Rav Regensburg was so world famous that everybody, he was a Rav in Chicago and he wrote this tshuva.

Rav Shechter said, I knew that tshuva because I remember years ago he said, Rav Regensburg sent his Sefer to my father.

And he said, my father gave it to me and asked me if there's anything worthwhile in the Sefer, anything good in the Sefer.

He didn't have time to read through it.

So Rav Shechter said, so I read through the Sefer and I told him that his Shuvah on brushing teeth on Shabbos is exactly what Rav Soloveitchik says.

So I thought that that was very good.

So that's what Rav Shechter told me at the time when I wrote this article 25 years ago.

Anyway, the second opinion is the sheet of Rav Vadya's Sefer, which is somewhat of a Kiddush.

Rav Vadya holds that you're allowed to use a wet toothbrush, you're allowed to use regular toothpaste,

But you have to have a separate toothbrush for Shabbos than you use during the week, because otherwise it would be a violation of Uvda Dechol.
