understand the mechanics of how human connection works.
You can think through like these techniques to connect with other people on a little bit deeper level.
If you understand that, just like if you understood breathwork, you would start to utilize those techniques without even thinking.
And you'd be able to help your team build connections, whether it's because of an issue that a guest has, or it's just on the first interaction that they're having.
Like how do they, how is it not just having an interaction, but how do you take that
to really connecting, right?
Like to really show up, to really create space in that moment with you and that person, and then to create some sense of belonging.
This is not really that hard, but it's not something that we talk about that much.
And so if you were to take just a little bit of time to talk with your team about it, all of a sudden they're taking crazy, maybe potentially scary situations with a guest who's unhappy and maybe going to leave a bad review.
and they're able to turn that where the person leaves a review that says we stayed at the house we had this really bad night where the smoke alarm was going off and we were so annoyed but we actually love the abode team because they snapped into action they came right over and fixed it and the next day they brought me a picnic basket that we took on a hike and blah blah blah and so they're literally going to tell a bad story about something that happened and leave you a five-star review and tell everyone about how shit happens sorry but this was so great
And so to me, like, this is what's possible for anyone at any level.
And I think that is, you know, that can be so, so important.
One of our biggest mistakes is that we outsourced housekeeping as long as we did.
I know that might sound like so off topic after talking about culture.
Well, we had amazing housekeeping and we had amazing results for years and years.
And so, but we were losing money on it.
for 15 years.
And we just thought that's just what it was.
We just had to because it's very expensive in our market.
And we, I think we're also afraid to bring it in house and try to deal with the complexities of that, which it's funny that we have this pretty complex business where like we can't handle housekeeping, but this was a mindset that we had over many years.
