But for this new study, scientists managed to make some organoids grow for five years.

She wasn't involved in this study, but says it's the longest lifespan of organoids to date.
During this time, the organoids matured to show characteristics of a four year old human brain.
Ming says this means researchers could potentially use organoids in longer-term developmental studies.
