Scientists use them to study human brain development.
But organoids usually last for months, maybe a year.
That means they only show researchers very early stages of the human brain.
But for this new study, scientists managed to make some organoids grow for five years.

Goli Ming is a neuroscientist at the University of Pennsylvania.
She wasn't involved in this study, but says it's the longest lifespan of organoids to date.
During this time, the organoids matured to show characteristics of a four-year-old human brain.
