You guys have too much of a slave mentality.

You are not believing in the project and the enterprise.

Turn around, it's an about-face, and everybody goes back into the desert and wanders around for 40 years so that anyone over the age of 20 perishes in the desert, with the exception of Joshua and Caleb, who were the two spies who did have faith in the project.

And everybody is wandering around.

It's not that we didn't have a map.

It's not that we didn't have ways.

It's that we didn't have the mentality needed to be visionaries and to understand how are we going to make this place work?

And so that was the first debacle that happened on the 9th of Av.

And that is recounted in the Mishnah as the first tragic national disaster is that the people didn't believe in the mission, in the mission of being a free people in our land.

Well, that's a destruction of what the vision and dream had been.

And that maybe is more painful almost than when it's really an outside factor.

But I think there's something very poignant that the very first one was we didn't believe in ourselves.

I think that's very important.

And that's why I really wanted to share that.

Because usually if you ask people what happened on Tisha B'Av that's so terrible, they will name the next two things I'm going to tell you, which are,

Right.

Well, so in the Mishnah, in the oral law that I was referencing, the first mention is the spy story, which I just shared.

And the second is what you are referring to, which is the destruction of the first temple.

Now, what I think is a little bit tricky is when I hear temple, I just think this big, beautiful building.
