You know, do they really need help and support?
You know, is it something they could just manage on their own if they if they tried hard enough?
Or like, you know, this person is depressed and having trouble getting out of bed.
Well, they should go on a walk every day or like eat better food or get more sunlight.
Like you hear all of those things still, which for anyone who really understands
understands those conditions, kind of is, you know, laughable in a sad way, because that's really not going to be helpful for that individual.
And that kind of advice is is, you know, pretty demoralizing in the face of what they're really.
by experiencing.
That has been my sticky problem for the past over a decade.
Cause when I was in provincial government, that was my area around prevention and early intervention for children and youth.
And so it was constantly trying to figure out how do I prove the return on investment for these community programs like Big Brothers, Big Sisters, mentoring programs, which we kind of intuitively know, like if a if a youth has a mentor who is meaningful to them, it changes the trajectory of their life.
But breaking that down into like dollars is difficult to say, okay, if you if government, if you invest five thousand dollars a year into this youth having a mentor, it's going to lead to X results.
You know, we can't say, oh, for sure that child would have ended up in in the legal system or incarcerated or whatever.
Because in the end that doesn't happen, right?
Or like, oh, they end up going to post secondary and you know, their their life is different.
But we can't say for certainty it wouldn't have been that way if the mentor hadn't been there, right?
So
Yeah, this this question of proving that prevention is effective is is always such a a challenge.

kind of show benchmarks and say like, okay, well we we know it's shifted in this positive direction and we can kind of like
