Cash versus investing income.
Sorry, guys, I'm not great at maths or getting my head around these numbers.
Please help.
Everyone says don't leave money in cash as it gets eaten away by inflation.
Have some inheritance coming soon.
Our house is paid off and we already have a share portfolio.
Our thought was to put the money into a high-interest bank account earning 5.5% with $200,000 that will give us $11,000 a year to scrape off the top for a good holiday, not touching the capital.
We would pay tax on this $11,000.
The other option is to put it into an ETF and also scrape $11,000 off it each year.
But would it grow enough and would we be better off with this option after we pay capital gains tax on this?
Is there some sort of calculator or calculation that would help me get my head around this?
