All right, colleagues, today it is my great honor to present a special commendation to four members of the Castro Public Works Block Sweepers team, whose work helps keep the Castro clean, welcoming, and safe.
That is Nilde Cruz, William Hatfield, Oliang Justinpanya Nuvong, and LaTanya Williams, as well as the team's managers, Chris Banks and Steven Duong.
I think LaTanya is not able to be here today, but we're grateful for her work.
and recognize her alongside her colleagues today.
This commendation actually originated with Castro residents who reached out to our office to recognize the team and share their appreciation for the hard work and care they bring to the neighborhood every day.
Although the name of the program is Block Sweepers, Neldy, William, Justin, and LaTanya do more than simply sweep the streets.
They're out in the neighborhood every day removing illegal postings and graffiti, addressing overflowing litter, weeding, and reporting illegal dumping and other safety concerns.
They're among the city employees who see the neighborhood most regularly, and their work makes a visible difference in the day-to-day experience of Castro residents and visitors.
Nildi has been with the Department of Public Works for nearly four years.
William has been with the department for three and a half years.
And Justin and LaTanya joined the department just three months ago.
All four live here in San Francisco.
The team's managers, Chris and Steven, both previously worked as block sweepers themselves.
They help ensure the team has the equipment and support they need, handle administrative responsibilities, and coordinate responses to issues that require additional attention, like illegal dumping.
Castro is a neighborhood with a strong sense of community, and having city workers who take pride in caring for the streets and sidewalks makes a real difference.
The appreciation this team has received from residents is a reflection of the care they put into their work every day.
