I'll begin my presentation with a brief overview of the proposed project analyzed in the Environmental Impact Report or EIR, and then highlight the key points addressed in our written response.
The project is the city's proposed purchase of PG and owned electrical transmission and distribution infrastructure or assets needed to provide electric service to customers in San Francisco.
Construction would be required to separate the acquired assets from PGE's electricity grid.
The EIR evaluates the physical environmental impacts associated with that separation, which would occur primarily in southern San Francisco and northern San Mateo County.
The EIR evaluates various components at the locations shown on this slide.
The red dot represents the Martin substation location, which I'll show in more detail in a minute.
A substation reduces high voltage electricity from power transmission lines to lower voltage for distribution to electric comp customers.
The project includes separating and reconfiguring P Genie's Martin substation in Brisbane.
So one portion would serve San Francisco and the other San Mateo County.
This would include installation of new transformers, circuit breakers, switch gear buildings, revenue meters and a control house.
The EIR includes a variant to the substation separation.
And the variant would construct a new substation on the adjacent Daly City Yard instead of separating Martin substation.
Distribution expressed feeders, the dashed red line here, are proposed to deliver electricity from Martin Substation to areas in southwestern San Francisco.
The remaining components include separating
Local overhead and underground distribution lines around the county border at general locations within the areas shaded in peach, and system reinforcements to maintain reliability at locations within the areas outlined in yellow.
In addition, new service yards and a control center are proposed within southeast San Francisco, not shown on the map.
