It's possible uh sometimes that um people who hand washed their mask didn't use soap or didn't use enough soap.

But the temperature of the water, you know, you can't go above a certain temperature without burning your fingers.

And WHO recommends you need to wash masks, cloth masks in sixty degrees Celsius, sixty to ninety degrees.

Um most washing machines have are the ability to wash at sixty degrees.

Um, so probably it's a combination of the temperature, the thoroughness of the wash and the duration of washing.

So most cycles go for about an hour.

Whereas if you hand wash it you might just, you know, give it a rub for thirty

Yeah, yeah.

Get yourself a mask that can be thrown in the wash and

Have at least two and throw it in the washing machine every day so that you have a clean mask, a clean laundered mask each day.

It will definitely

um reduce the risk of a contaminated mask.

So that was the other part of the study.

We tested the masks for viruses and we found viruses on the surfaces of the both the surgical mask and the cloth mask.

But in the study

People got a new surgical mask each day.

They didn't have to reuse them because they're disposable products.

But the cloth mask uses

Had to reuse them.
