Firstly, the concept of herd immunity arose from vaccination, not from infection.

So the concept itself relates to vaccination.

That's what we're trying to do when we vaccinate people, say for measles or polio.

We're trying to get enough people immune in the community in a population so that um uh it can't be transmitted even in the people who are not vaccinated.

Um, and it relates to how infectious the v the disease is.

So in the case of um COVID nineteen, we think it's one person might infect two to three other people.

And that's called the reproductive number, the number of people that one infected person will infect if they're completely non immune.

Um and therefore there's a there's a mathematical formula, I won't bore you with that, but the f there's a mathematical formula for which you can calculate
