And if I did gain some weight, they were right there in my face telling me about it.
And it happened many times.
And so I found that what I thought was this amazing dance form that accepted all body images, as you get more professional, man, they kind of push back.
And I don't mean this in a negative way, but it was a lot of the male energy pushing back, saying, no, we want you to look slim.
We want you to look curvy, but we want you to look slim and look a certain way and whatever.
And I would push back and say, no, I don't like that.
And then what happens is that that insecurity comes in.
Well, what if I don't do this, then someone else would get my job kind of thing.
So I had to figure out how to work all that out so that I could keep me and my confidence, but work within this really weird kind of
of scenario where they were expecting something and wanted to stay the same.
Even restaurant owners and nightclub owners would say, hey, you got to stay a certain weight.
And that's the taboo about this dance form that not a lot of people want to talk about is that, no, they talk about it.
And they won't hire people if they don't think that they're skinny enough.
And that's the fact of it.
You know, I, I wrote articles about it because I was not happy about it.
Well, if somebody wants to be a professional belly dancer, for instance, um, I would say at this point in time, push back and say,
You're hiring me because of my talent, not because of my weight.
And when I pushed back and said, you know what?
You love me, don't you?
And I talked to the gals who would hire me in their homes to dance.
