It was, it was a lifestyle.

And as I got better, I noticed that there were some things that came my way that I didn't expect.

And there,

there was pushback on body image and it seemed that the more professional dancer got, it seemed like her weight was an issue.

And, uh, when I, I, for instance, I danced at a Persian restaurant in, um, in Dallas called Sinbats.

And I used to dance for a wonderful Persian community out there.

I just really enjoyed that, that time.

And the people kind of identified,

with me is their belly dancer.

And when people kind of identify with you and you're their little celebrity and you're their person, they will make comments like, oh, and because my dance name was not Rainbow, just to let everybody know that, it was Layla.

And Layla Najma.

And they go, oh, Layla, you're getting a little weight tonight.

Did you eat too much?

You know, you need to lose 10 pounds.

something like that.

And I'd be crying, you know, I think I'm okay.

And they're like, no, no, no, you, you need to, you know, no, you look, need to look like you did two weeks ago.

And I was like, well, that's interesting.

And then even the band members would make comments.

And, and I found that there is a responsibility to stay a certain weight as I got more well-known.
