There's a letter that he writes to his mom while he's taking part in the Battle of Bergen, which is in 1665.
And it's actually probably one of the sweetest letters that we find with the Earl of Rochester.
He's still very young.
He's still in his teens.
And he writes about how he's excited to go and maybe get some shirts or maybe find some gold from a prize ship because they're hoping to intercept.
This is during the Anglo-Dutch Wars.
They're hoping to intercept some Dutch warships.
And he writes a couple of letters to his mom.
And it's a complete failure.
But he conducts himself with bravery.
He sees two of his friends die in front of his very eyes.
One of them he describes in his letters and also in an account later on as trembling with fear and basically being frozen because of all the cannon fire that's going on.
And another friend holds this friend of theirs and is shot through with a cannon as well.
So they both die.
But according to the Earl of Rochester, they made a promise before their deaths, the three of them, one of them declined actually, but the three of them discussed what would happen after death.
