Look around the room, a concussion is a brain injury and you do not have to lose consciousness to have one.

North Carolina shows that about one in four adults reported experiencing a head injury that's caused them to be knocked out or to lose consciousness.

As the incoming chair of the North Carolina Brain Injury Advisory Council, this work is very important to me.

For the past five years, Charlotte has had the highest or held the largest brain injury awareness month recognition in North Carolina.

Awareness matters, prevention matters, and it's my honor to read tonight's proclamation.

Whereas a concussion is a mild brain injury caused by a bump.
podcast-host
blow or jolt to the head or body that can affect brain function.
podcast-host
And symptoms may involve thinking, memory, balance, sleep, emotions, vision, concentration, and other aspects of daily life.

And whereas concussions can happen to anyone through falls, motor vehicle crashes, workplace or recreational injuries, military service, interpersonal violence, sports, and other physical activities, and every suspected concussion deserves to be taken seriously.
