So I'm not going to hold my breath that Republicans are going to stick by their word or have courage to stand up to Trump.
I think a little bit of both.
I think, you know, I have followed national news.
I am not surprised.
Well, we met in 2016 at the Democratic National Convention at the CNN Grill, probably around midnight on that Thursday night after I spoke on the convention stage.
But, you know, I think what's so jarring coming here.
is to see how much of this is a reality TV show for some people, to see how much of this is pure performance for performance sake.
Now, in today's political environment, you have to be good at getting attention to be effective.
But for a lot of people here on the other side of the aisle, it is not attention as a tool to make progress.
It is attention for attention's sake.
And it is the strategy of reality TV that they employ.
And they're happy.
To get attention and to stay in office, and they know that to do the first, they need to be outrageous, and to do the second, they need to suck up to Donald Trump because they're scared of primaries.
They are.
And you see just how different people are in front of the cameras and behind the cameras.
You see that behavior changes, that people treat one another with kindness and respect when the cameras aren't on.
But when the cameras are on, when they're out in public, when they're on that stage, they become a completely different person.
The cruelty becomes the point.
