In a couple of months, there's the Victorian state election, which reminds us that back in 1967, while Richmond were trying to win the premiership, Jack Dyer was trying to win the seat of Paran.

And people were asking, when did a footballer last travel by boat to a game?
Well, in the VFA years, the Richmond Football Club often would take a boat to Geelong.
They took the SS Courier in 1894 from Queens Wharf at 10am for their journey across the Corio Bay, and a number of players became seasick.
And then they took the return trip at 6pm, where a German band played music on board.
They also boarded the steamship the Excelsior in 1893.
Many Tiger fans joined them because, the newspaper said, more for the pleasure of having a sniff of the briny.
