They wouldn't travel by the Excelsior ever again because it sank when colliding with the SS Edina in Port Phillip Bay.
So the club continued in the subsequent years to travel on the SS Edina, the steamship built in 1855 that was used during the Crimean War, then the American Civil War, to carry cotton.
And that's hitting Tigerland.

Howdy there, folks.
A few weeks ago we spoke about occupations of Richmond players, and perhaps the most common one we haven't mentioned is working in a pub.
It seems like every Richmond player or official worked in one at some point.
The Vaughls Hotel was run by Des Rowe and later Graham Richmond, with Royce Hart working behind the bar.
Royce also worked in the precinct hotel along with Craig McKeller.
It had earlier been called the Greyhound, and that was run by the great Checker Hughes for twenty years.
Ray Poulter had the Mountain View Hotel on Bridge Road.
Ron Barassi later took that over.
Francis Burke managed the Royal Oak and also the Vine Hotel in Richmond, which Max Oppy and his son Grant took over.
Wayne Campbell had the Swan Hotel, that's the same pub where the club gained admittance.
Into the VFL in 1907.
The London Tavern saw Robbie McGee, then Peter Wilson, and John Northey take it on.
Northey also worked at the Royal Hotel, the very pub where the club was formed in 1885.
The Strang brothers owned it decades earlier.
And of course, everyone had an ale with the whale at the Cricket Club Hotel in South Melbourne, and of course the Duke of Wellington.
