Well, we are an international organisation and we are a hub for knowledge and we share practices across countries.
We develop statistics to make those practices and countries comparable across each other.
As you know, AI and new technologies might replace many of the sort of cognitive jobs that require high-level cognitive tasks and performance.
But AI will not be very effective in replacing some jobs in areas such as services, for example, that require strong human interactions.
And I think there's a great opportunity for vocational education and training here.
not only because they are occupation-specific and very vocational-oriented, but also because these are typically shorter programs and they can adapt to changing labor market needs much easier and much faster than, for example, a university degree.
So the problem is the perception is not the same, right?
It's not as prestigious as following a university pathway.
And that is a challenge for countries.
And the OECD is working very actively in supporting countries and improving quality that can then lead to an increased, better perception of it.
Absolutely.
I think this is a critical question, the cost, right?
It's not cheap to provide vocational education and training.
You need labs, you need equipment.
The advantage is that these are typically shorter programs, right, compared to university degrees, where in some countries...
are four, five, even six years in some cases.
The main question is, how do we finance vocational education and training?
In some countries, it's 100% funded by governments, by the state.
But I think many countries are now moving to mixed funding formulas where not only the governments contribute, but also employers.
Students typically spend some time in schools, but also sometimes in the company as a regular worker.
