For the third season in a row, there will be 12 teams in the playoff.

Executive Director Rich Clark stated Friday this will give the Management Committee additional time to review the 12-team format so they can better assess the need for potential change.

Another year of evaluation will be helpful.

ESPN reports SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey supported expansion to a 16-team field, but Big Ten Commissioner Tony Petitti would only get on board if there was an agreement to expand the playoff to 24 teams after three years.
