Whereas others, say the magpies came here.
They came in and wasted, but they stayed.
That's the other type of an eruption, you know.
Or the little egret crossing to America said, I'm going to stay here and set up shop.
And he does.
But this one, the eruption this time paid off and they have stayed and they've done very well.
Interesting idea that now they're the victims of our potty training tendencies.
Because they love dead trees.
Dead trees are much better to drum on.
They make much more noise.
And they're also easy to dig into.
So if you have to go at a mature oak and spend two weeks cutting a hole in it for a nest, that's a lot of work.
But if it's a dead tree, you can get in there fairly easily.
But we keep on clearing up the dead trees.
So the potty training we go on in woods and things, if we abandon that, we would encourage the woodpeckers, I would think.
But what about the way they feed?
Oh, and that is fantastic, this project.

Well, now I'm thinking about, Carly, about half the eggs are predated in the nest and about half of the chicks die before fledging.
