You have to breed often to get enough young through.

So you breed repeatedly.

So bird pigeons have a much more extended kind of loose attitude to breeding.

And the street pigeon, the ones that you see all over the place, they breed even in December and January.

You see them under bridges and all sorts of things.

Well, it's seasonable up to a point, but you stretch the edges of it, shall we say.

You get them breeding very early.

March, you often see one pigeon's nest, and then you often see one rather late.

I think you would be able to either confirm or flatly deny this now.

There's a reason why you would move house if you were a bird.

If you would sit on the nest for a week or two and young and adverse a couple of weeks, parasites, things that infect your plumage and bite you and things like that, ticks and things.

fleas and creepy crawlies of various kinds.

They are in the nest and they lay their eggs in there.

Now, by moving to a new nest, you outwit these.

They've got to start again from scratch.

So it's always a toss-up whether you're going to stay with the old nest and push up with the residents, the other residents, or whether you're going to build a new one.
