And the child ego state really starts the decision-making process because it says, I want it.
right?
I've got two teenage kids.
One of them is about to turn 16.
He really wants a car, right?
And it's pure child.
It's pure joy.
And then there's this parent ego state.
That's the one that's critical and sort of self-reflective.
That's the one that's sort of telling us to be mindful of like, is this the right decision or the wrong decision?
Is this the appropriate or inappropriate thing, right?
it does pass judgment on us right it really does you know like when my mom comes to visit even though i'm 56 you know she still passes some judgment on me right like you know so that's the way the world works um and then there's an adult ego state that's sort of that is not sort of that are the pros and cons of a decision right those are the upsides and downsides so like if you're looking at two cars or you're looking at two pieces of software well i like this about this one and this about this one and i don't like this and i don't like that
And it's that adult ego state that gives us permission to move forward.
And that's where we're trying to focus in sales, right?
Sometimes it's permission to move forward on a cold call.
Sometimes it's permission to move forward to set the next meeting, right?
Or to send a proposal.
And you have to go through all of these ego states in a conversation.
You don't spend an entire conversation in one ego state.
And you certainly don't spend an entire sentence in an ego state.
