I believe b the children develop it when they're babies in the first year of life, when they're um learning it's part of learning language, I think, and people retain it all babies retain it or else they lose it.

Usually by about nine or ten months.

Well, all tonal of of all the languages spoken on Earth, there's sixty five hundred languages spoken on Earth and these e out of these languages li English, for example, has forty four phonemes or phonetic units that make up syllables.

There's about I don't know, over two thousand phonemes that combine and to to make all these different languages.

Well every baby

is born with the ability to hear all these phonemes.

But beginning uh starting at around nine months, they begin to lose this ability.

So if a baby's exposed to five languages in this time period

They'll for the rest of their lives be able to recognize these phonemes and decipher them.

Um, there's a a great TED talk that I saw years ago, uh, by a woman named Patricia Cool.

She's a um

Um she it was it's called the lingist linguistic genius of babies.

And she talks about how they did a study where they brought English speaking babies in for um that were about nine months of age.

in for I don't know, ten, twenty five minute sessions with a Mandarin speaker and this Mandarin speaker

would speak to the babies, read a story to them and interact with them for only about twenty five minutes or so.

And they did the same thing.

They had three different groups.

One of the groups was with a person in the same room.

Then the there were babies that listened to it with video.
