So this is, you know, obviously you just come across these objects or books or stories at certain points in your life.
And this one ruined me for all the right reasons.
A, because I love Kurt Vonnegut as a writer anyway.
I think he's got such a charm with language.
And it's almost uncool to say this now, but like I learnt a lot in terms of my own style from him and Douglas Adams back when I was much younger.
Well, I mean, I'm not saying I'm them.

I think Douglas Adams, like, I mean, the ship's hung in the sky in much the same way that bricks don't, like, is an amazing turn of phrase.
It's great.
And Kurt Vonnegut, I can't remember the exact phrase at the start of Sirens of Titan, but he's trying to describe what this woman looks like, and he says...
you know she had one of those faces that makes a person stop and go yes that's a perfectly acceptable way for a face to look like which is just i don't know it's just charming but there's it's this kind of crazy story it's science fiction and i'm not a real science fiction guy but it's not about that he uses that to blow up these kind of great human dramas and about what life is for and there's a great line toward the end where it's like you know you know champ like the one thing i've learned no matter who's in charge of this entire business meaning whatever god there is
The only thing I've learnt that matters is that you need to love whoever is around to be loved.
And I was just, like, I read that line.
And that was actually the, when I read that book, I messaged my friend who recommended it to me and mentioned, four or five years ago now, I'm like, this is my year of living vulnerably.
This is what it is.
Like, I need to do this.
So that was like the genesis of it.
It's a beautiful book.
