And those are people who can see the racket.
And look, when we invaded, when we attacked Iraq in 1991,
during the Gulf War.
We did it because they had invaded Kuwait and that was going to disrupt the Persian Gulf and disrupt the oil supply and all that stuff, right?
My old boss, George Herbert Walker Bush, spent months and months and months and months on the phone talking to other countries, talking to our allies, talking to people who weren't our allies, talking to the American people, talking to Congress, making a plan so that when we went in there to push him out of Kuwait, we did just that.
We pushed him out of Kuwait and we left.
That was a limited use of force.
It was not a full-scale war.
When we went back in 2003, we got ourselves caught in the escalation trap.
And that escalation trap was, okay, we're going to bomb them first, and then they're going to surrender.
Well, they didn't surrender.
We're going to invade them, then they're going to surrender.
They didn't surrender.
We're going to capture Saddam, then they're going to surrender.
They didn't surrender.
Well, we got to put more people in to calm things down.
They didn't surrender.
And that escalation trap ended up with 150,000 Americans in Iraq at one point, and we still couldn't finish the job.
We stayed in Afghanistan for damn near 20 years and couldn't finish the job.
That's not because our forces were not brave or courageous or effective or that we didn't have great weapons or great training or great people.
