And so just one expert gave me the very practical advice of interrupting that inner critic in your head that says you're not good enough and replacing it with something more positive.
And then the third thing is,
I think we've talked about this on the show, which is to build an identity that's bigger than your job title.
Like if your entire sense of value is tied to your work, then every rejection is going to really hit you at your core.
So they both talked about the importance of having a life outside of your profession, not to monetize, not to optimize, but just to remind yourself that you are a full person.
And I think we all need sources of positive feedback that aren't coming from the labor market.
So I think there are a lot of ways to interpret this question.
But I wanted to look into it because I kept hearing in my own circles and online people asking this question of like, how much is enough for a comfortable life or to stop feeling anxious?
And it can sound like a budgeting question, but I was actually more interested in
And what this question reveals about what kind of life we think is possible.
And right now, enough feels like a moving target.
So, you know, a lot of us are hitting milestones that once meant stability, but are still faced, you know, feeling like we're on edge because those typical foundations of security, like housing and health care and study work don't feel as solid as they used to.
Right.
And so I think it's a question we're forced to answer constantly, even if we don't realize it.
Like, you know, should I take that higher paying job I hate or do I move or should I have kids?
Should I help my parents?
You know, we're all making these daily calculations.
So the episode is really about that friction, how we live in a culture that tells us more is always the responsible choice.
But a lot of people are realizing that more can also cost you your time and your health or your relationships.
And, you know, I talked with a lot of different people for this episode.
