And we talked about that perfectionism really the core of it is anxiety.
So to me, it makes perfect sense.
It makes perfect sense that somebody who's been getting these negative messages their whole life.
would want to overcompensate because those feelings of anxiety do not feel well.
They do not feel good.
And those messages were not easy.
Even if you were just saying them to yourself.
Even if everybody around you, maybe they didn't know you had ADHD and you were just telling yourself these negative messages.
You would want to avoid those messages and the way to overcompensate and stop them, one path is perfectionism.
Think about it, if I do everything perfectly and flawlessly, there's nothing to criticize.
So to me it always made sense that ADHD and perfectionism would go hand in hand.
And I also think there's other reasons.
There's other reasons because think about some traits of ADHD.
An example of of a trait of somebody with ADHD is all or nothing thinking.
We talk about that a lot.
Not all of them, but so many.
Where they're, you know, they're thinking, there's just one way of doing it.
And if I don't do it that way, I'm not doing it at all.
That's a fixed mindset.
It's a fixed mindset that really lends itself to perfectionism.
