You know, men in particular, you know, you got sort of the pickup artist and red pill guys who claim to be very successful with women bragging about how many women they've hooked up with.

And then you have the incels on the other side of this who are, you know, not bragging, but, you know, I guess whining and complaining about how little sex they're having.

This gives the impression that...

oh, wow, you've got one segment of guys who are having all of the sex, and then you have this other section of guys who are having none of the sex, and then women are just passive bystanders who are maybe getting duped by the pickup artists or the chads or something.

But what this suggests, actually, is that there is a kind of a chad, but the myth of the chad is that, yeah, that one segment of guys are having all of the sex with all of the women, and it's not the case that...

There are, you know, there are femcels, there are women in relationships, there are women who are just uninterested in dating.

And you kind of see the mirror image of this for men as well.

And weirdly, this suggests that men and women are more alike than many think, which is maybe a point to your book.

Yeah, well, I think a part of it is the trend of dating apps.

So, you know, the swipe rates are very easy to measure.

There's been a lot of research on this.

And we mistakenly kind of over interpret the findings of what people see on Tinder or on Hinge, which do show, you know, on Tinder, it's something like 4% of the men get the vast majority of the swipes.

um and then uh much smaller numbers um or rather larger numbers of women get get liked versus versus men same thing on hinge that the top 10 of male users on hinge gets 60 of the likes and so it's very easy to come away from that thinking like oh that's reality that you know 10 of the guys are getting 60 of the female attention there was that other finding about male attractiveness you guys have probably seen this data that's kind of you know it's a little outdated but um

It also kind of makes sense in a way that people would come away from that thinking like, oh, most women are only attracted to that small section of a fragment of guys and, you know, men are much more even and kind of fair in their assessment of women.

And then I think social media as well, that you're seeing guys like they take these very anomalous interactions where women suddenly lose interest in them or ghost them or something.

And they tell this, you know, elaborate story and it's very attention grabbing.

And then those stories go viral.

But the reason they go viral is because they're anomalous and atypical.

Normal stories of, hey, I met this girl and we really liked each other and now we're engaged, we're getting married.
