Like when you know they're going to come in, you can't stop thinking.
the mind from creating these thoughts when you know they're going to come in you can start to develop something to kind of bring you back into the body so if you watch these players you'll often kind of see you know that maybe they're kind of standing up on their toes they're like looking for something to kind of ground themselves in this reality or they might take kind of this say like troy paris coming up to take his penalty it's quite a slow walk up that he took
You can be sure that he's probably quite aware of the ground beneath his feet while he's taking that walk up.
It's all about trying to ground yourself in this reality and not be taken away somewhere else where that's actually affecting you.
Because you think about as soon as you start paying more attention to missing that penalty, just go back to the cinema analogy again.
All of a sudden, what's happening in the body?
My heart is racing.
Everything is tensing up.
And in that kind of assessment that I do, what I usually see is that, you know, they experience these either heavy legs or maybe jelly legs.
And you just watch.
I mean, if you just look at the way that it's executed, then you can see that it's like, oh, my God, it's like he didn't really fully go through that.
But the trouble is that when they don't realise it's to do with their attention, they walk away thinking, oh, my God, I'm really bad at penalties.
Like, I don't want to take another penalty ever again.
And it's nothing to do with that.
They're not bad at taking penalties.
Sure, we know they can score penalties all day long in training.
It's nothing to do with their skill level.
It's to do with their attention and the quality of their attention.
Well, in the beginning, it was definitely long term.
You know, it took a while, I suppose.
