Primarily, I would have worked an awful lot with individual athletes who have to perform a skill in that closed skill environment where all the eyes are on them, and I've just noticed that more in the teams that I work with,
there's a higher percentage of the athletes within that team that really have a deep interest in doing this kind of work.
Absolutely.
Like it's trying to get them back up there to take another penalty again.
And that's the hardest thing for them because the subconscious has, if it's an experience Eve, like that's highly charged with emotion, which obviously missing a penalty last week was.
Yeah.
So there's an awful lot of emotion that's going on there.
That's the language of the subconscious.
So it pays more attention to this experience.
And if that emotion is one of disappointment, sadness, guilt, whatever it is, it kind of holds on to it and it makes an association between penalty shootouts and this emotion.
So the next time that athlete goes up to take the penalty straight away, the subconscious will be triggering this fear because it has that direct experience in the past.
And an awful lot of the time, that's the type of athlete that I'll end up working with.
It's somebody who's gone through the pain of missing these penalties or missing these kicks or not getting into this trial.
And then it's the emotional experience they had afterwards that nearly holds them back more than their skill level at all could.
So like those guys for sure, what would they need to be doing afterwards?
They'd need to be kind of recognising, okay, well, first of all, I put my hand up, yeah?
I had the courage to go up and to take that penalty.
Not everybody did, but I did.
So they'd be looking at that Eve.
The other thing is courage cannot exist apart from fear.
