He said, when we don't have the puck, then we have to be disciplined in playing defense.
But it was dramatic.
It was the most fun I ever had.

And defensemen got involved in the rushes.
You see that more today in the pro game and the way everybody plays is because defensemen today are so much more skilled than they were 50 years ago, right?
And it was just a phenomenal way.
The other thing Herbie said was,
We're going to we may not be the best team in the tournament, but we'll be the best condition team.
And he wasn't wrong about that.
He was the same coach, but he was a student of the game and he realized he couldn't coach the Olympic team the way he coached at the U. He treated us more like adults, quite honestly.
He gave us a little more leeway.
He allowed us, candidly allowed us to grow.
And he was still tough on us.
He was really demanding.
I can't emphasize that enough, and I don't say it with any anger or bitterness.
I just think back.
I coached the Blake School for seven years, and kids today are different, man.
There's no way you could coach today the way Herbie coached, even on the Olympic team.
So he was a progressive kind of coach.
