And I yelled, I love you, Ronnie.
And he shouted back, I love you.
And then we were called to the hospital and he was in a side room and all the tubes that had been in his body the day before were gone, just a single oxygen line.
And we sat in the darkness and I hugged him and I said, I love you, Ronnie.
And suddenly Diane got up from her chair and she lay next to him, put her head next to him.
And she began singing a little song that we used to sing in Sunday school, that Ronnie would have sung, because he came a little bit to our Sunday school with kids.
She sang to him, Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so.
Little ones to him belong, they are weak, but he is strong.
And over and over again in the darkness she sang it.
And then finally he was gone.
Wow.
And just after his funeral, we were in the crematorium, just outside for a moment alone.
It was a beautiful September day.
And she said to me, do you remember that question he asked you that night?
I said, yes, I do.
He said, we'll be together forever, won't we?
And I said, yeah.
And you said, yes.
Well, you were right.
And he became part of our family.
