I see.

So you're saying uh even though Meta is like relatively not interested in big giving big resources to alignment or safety or control or anything like that, if there were just really basic established techniques that other companies or researchers outside of companies had come up with and that was just regarded as generally best practice, they might be perfectly happy to adopt those those methods.

Yeah.

I mean is that so

Uh for th for those who don't know, I get meta meta's like various public statements have not been that enthusiastic about uh they don't seem that worried about uh misalignment.

They're not that interested in in in investing in it.

But part of the reason that they they say they're not worried is because well, of course we'll just do the obvious things to prevent it.

They're not saying that no countermeasures are required, they're just saying that they will do them.

And so possibly if you're just coming in and saying, Look, I'm not a doomer, I'm not saying that this is unsolvable, I'm merely saying that we should do these like standard best practices to make sure.

That they are safe, then they'll be like, Okay, great, this was our message all along anyway.

That's the dream.

Okay, cool.

Um, is there much more to say on like

even with you, a co author of the paper.

Is it also uh harder to get alignment techniques uh invented in one place, taken to another company, maybe 'cause I mean I know that the companies have difficulty speaking and coordinating because of antitrust concerns.

So it's like, you know, a any c any contact between them is like s is is is scrutinized.

I guess especially if you're thinking about like ways that they could like I guess if the alignment technique implicitly involves slowing down in some respects, then like that that is potentially objectionable to some people.

That's right.
