I guess that explains why very often the military uh is very often they seem to kind of sit it out and then they're just they're just like waiting to see what happens and then they'll side with whoever is that has that has won.

I guess I find that more and more this all feels like an awful lot.

And I and I I I can use like regular reminders that this is all salvageable.

It's all do I guess in general you've been like making me feel better about this today.

It feels like there's lots of practical stuff that we can do.

Today, I have the pleasure of speaking again with Alan Defoe, who is currently the director of frontier safety and governance at Google DeepMind, or GDM for short.

For that, he was the founding director of the Center for the Governance of AI.

He was also a founder of the Cooperative AI Foundation and is a visiting scholar at the Oxford Martin School's AI Governance Initiative.

And I guess before all of that, you were an academic in the social sciences studying technological determinism.

I guess uh great great power conflict, um, great you know, the the big big peace theory, uh that kind of thing.

Uh which uh I guess we're gonna get a little bit of all of these different pieces of your of your work today.
