What set what set her apart from all the other monarchs when she came to the throne was all her predecessors um had sort of w were expected to to make Britain great.

Not again, because it already was great.

You know, it's this idea of of of you know, you've got to you've got to consolidate power.

We've got to um make the empire strong and and hold on to all these possessions.

She comes in and uh

The British Empire has has has effectively gone in nineteen forty seven with the partition of India and in c in just evolving as this new concept of the Commonwealth, the modern Commonwealth.

Uh and and her job is is not to consolidate an empire.

She's her father was was was crowned emperor, so was his father and his father and his uh mother and everybody.

Uh, you know, that she wasn't.

The Empire had gone.

She was all about dismantling it, but doing it amicably.

So basically

still I mean there was still a lot of of of of of the world what were was was a British colony in nineteen fifty two.

And uh and her I think she would regard her greatest uh achievement as as creating the Commonwealth as as moving from an imperial structure to a post imperial structure and one that's that's that's that that it it's happened amicably um and uh constructively.

But what I think we are seeing now is is is a change in tone.

So there was it was a very forward looking thing.

A lot of these young countries were becoming democracies.

They wanted help.

Um she loved sort of uh holding these Commonwealth summits, these leaders I think felt uh because these are these were these were young countries finding their feet, and here was this big establishment figure, the Queen, who would would meet them and treat them as equals and and and and there was a real

Sense of uh of kind of harmony at these these Commonwealth events.
