A lot of joy from books this week.
For me, it was a af after a a year of reading Thomas Mann, that a friend had suggested.
Um I I wanted something a lot lighter than that and uh found on Mike Kindle Washington Irving's uh History of New York.
uh which is a very funny book.
It's it's a it's a send up of histories, uh in which he begins with the solar system uh and the earth and the continents, and finally eventually he gets to the Dutch going to to to New Amsterdam.
Um it was originally published uh under a pseudonym, uh Diedrich Nickerbacher.
Yes.
Uh it became fabulously popular.
Uh he is uh uh Washington Irving uh was responsible for the use of Gotham to describe New York City, the phrase the almighty dollar, and mostly popularizing
Knickerbockers.
Uh who survived to this day in the form of the New York Knicks.
It's one of the last usages of of uh Knickerbocker in New York City.
It's a delightful book.
Anyway, it's great.
