Bob Coleman does a great job of tracking SBA lending trends and commercial lending trends to small business, small enterprise, and through the SBA.
It would appear that SBA lending is up, and that's a very, very good thing.
But today we increasingly see a prospective franchisee
raising money through investment or investment resources, whether it's family or friends or whether a group of investors are coming together to get involved in franchising.
You know, we do 45% of our revenue with restaurant concepts, and we represent some very, very big brands.
And increasingly what we see is an investment group that maybe in the past
would have put money into real estate or traditional business investment.
Most of them don't have the stomach for commodities or exotic investments, looking at franchising going, wow.
So if we invest, as an example, in a restaurant concept, we have an underlying real estate play where we could maybe buy the land or build the building.
We get a business that operates with free cash flow.
We have a business where we can put our hands into the cash register every day.
Unlike a traditional investment,
And the real key is can we find the right operating partner?
Well, through the downturn, of course, certain segments of the restaurant business had a lot of difficulty and it led to an environment where very often they can find an operating partner
to combine with their investment resources to buy a meaningful stake in either a brand or franchise or as the franchisee in a given city, community, or marketplace.
So, you know, we didn't see that going back four years ago.
And again, I think it lends credence to this
