We've seen a couple of really large changes, of course, versus nearly 25 years ago when I started and the Internet did not exist.
At least as we know it today as a ubiquitous tool, we see technology having a huge impact on information flows.
Today we see buyers that are certainly more sophisticated, as you point out, but better educated.
By the time we sit down with someone at a Discovery Day event, they are going to have a tremendous amount of information, not only on the company maybe they're looking at and on the industry, but there's going to be some real influence from things like social media, from blogs.
I think it's interesting to watch how some of the best companies in franchising have really taken control of
And they're really driving the throughput.
Folks recognize that facts are important, but they want to understand how that brand that they're going to invest in as a franchisee aligns with them.
Technology has completely, I think, changed the way that people gather information.
They're more sophisticated on franchising as a business development vehicle.
They're more sophisticated in the clients.
They're asking certainly much, much better questions.
And
The best organizations that we see out there are very, very good at speaking to that prospective franchising audience, not only in traditional media, but in new media terms.
So technology has played a big role.
The second is that the lending environment has certainly changed.
And I will certainly acknowledge I'm about to give you an oversimplification, but I think back to 2003, 2004, 2005, before the downturn,
where people could absolutely use their home equity or their home like it was a piggy bank.
And those days, of course,
gone.
I think it's increasingly become more difficult, of course, to raise capital for prospective franchisee.
